The Development of Museums

(1) The conviction that historical relics provide infallible testimony about the past is rooted in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when science was regarded as objective and value free. As one writer observes: 'Although it is now evident that artifacts are as easily altered as chronicles, public faith in their veracity endures: a tangible relic seems ipso facto real! Such conviction was, until recently, reflected in museum displays. Museums used to look — and some still do — much like storage rooms of objects packed together in showcases: good for scholars who wanted to study the subtle differences in design, but not for the ordinary visitor. to whom lt all looked alike. Similarly, the information accompanying the objects often made little sense to the lay visitor. The content and format of explanations dated back to a time when the museum was the exclusive domain of the scientific researcher.

(2). Recently, however, attitudes towards history and the way lt should be presented have altered. The key word in heritage display is now 'experience the more exciting the better and, if possible, involving all the senses. Good examples of this approach ln the UK are the Jorvik Centre in York; the National Museum of Photography, Elm ¬¬and Television in Bradford; and the imperial War Museum in London. In the US the trend emerged much earlier. Williamsburg has been a prototype for many heritage developments in other parts of the world. No one can predict where the process will end. On so called heritage sites the re-enactment of historical events is increasingly popular, and computers will soon provide virtual reality experiences, which will present visitors with a vivid image of the period of their choice, in which they themselves can act as if part of the historical environment. Such developments have been criticised as an intolerable vulgarisation. but the success of many historical theme parks and similar locations suggests that the majority of the public does not share this opinion.

(3) In a related development, the sharp distinction between museum and heritage sites on the one hand, and theme parks on the other. is gradually evaporating. They already borrow ideas and concepts from one another. For example, museums have adopted storylines for exhibitions, sites have accepted 'theming’ as a relevant tool, and theme parks are moving towards more authenticity and research-based presentations in zoos, animals are no longer kept in cages, but in great spaces, either ln the open air or in enormous greenhouses, such as the jungle and desert environments .In Burgers' Zoo In Holland. This particular trend is regarded as one of the major developments in the presentation of natural history in the twentieth century.

(4) Theme parks are undergoing other changes, too, as they try to present more serious social and cultural issues, and move away from fantasy. This development is a response to market forces and, although museums and heritage sites have a special. rather distinct, role to fullfil, they are also operating in a very competitive environment, where visitors make choices on how and where to spend their free time. Heritage and museum experts do not have to invent stories and recreate historical environments to attract their visitors: their assets are already in place. However, exhibits must be both based on artefacts and facts as we know them, and attractively presented. Those who are professionally engaged in the art of interpreting history are thus ln a difficult position, as they must steer a narrow course between the demands of ’evidence' and ‘attractiveness especially given the increasing need in the heritage industry for income generating activities.

(5) It could be claimed that in order to make everything in heritage more `real` historical accuracy must be increasingly altered. For example,Pithecanthropus erectus is depicted in an Indonesian museum with Malay facial features, because this corresponds to public perceptions. Similarly, in the Museum of Natural History in Washington, Neanderthal man is shown making a dominant gesture to his wife. Such presentations tell us more about contemporary perceptions of the world than about our ancestors. There is one compensation, however, for the professionals who make these interpretations: If they did not provide the interpretation, visitors would do it for themselves. based on their own ideas. misconceptions and prejudices. And no matter how exciting the result, it would contain a lot more bias than the presentations provided by experts.

(6) Human bias is inevitable, but another source of bias in the representation of history has to do with the transitory nature of the materials themselves. The simple fact is that not everything from history survives the historical process. Castles, palaces and cathedrals have a longer lifespan than the dwellings of ordinary people. The same applies to the famishing and other contents of the premises. In a town like Leyden in Holland, which in the seventeenth century was occupied by approximately the same number of inhabitants as today, people lived within the walled town, an area more than five times smaller than modern Leyden. In most of the houses several families lived together in circumstances beyond our imagination. Yet In museums, line period rooms give only an image of the lifestyle of the upper class of that era. No wonder that people who stroll around exhibitions are filled with nostalgia; the evidence in museums indicates that life was so much better in the past. This notion is induced by the bias in its representation in museums and heritage centers.

Feng Shui

Feng Shui is the art of arranging your home and the things in it in the best possible way. It began in China about 5000 years ago, but recently architects and designers all over the world have started to include the idea in their work. The most important thing to understand about Feng Shui is the idea of chi, which means vital energy or life force. The art of Feng Shui is to make sure the right objects are in the right places so that the chi can flow freely around the home. This is said to create good health and financial well-being as well as improved relationships between parents and children and husband and wife. You can improve your own Feng Shui by trying some of the techniques listed below. Firstly, keep the hall of your home clear of shoes, umbrellas and other objects. This is to allow the chi to enter your home freely. If possible, put a small indoor fountain in this part of your home. In the living room, choose furniture which is the right size for the room and arrange it so that people can move around the room comfortably. If the room is small, hang a mirror to create a feeling of space. Make sure you have blinds or curtains to prevent the chi from escaping. The bedroom is considered a very important area in Feng Shui. It is best not to have a television or any other electrical item in here, but if you find it impossible to live without them, you can cover them with a plastic table-cloth when you have finished using them. The table-cloth must be plastic – other materials will not work. It is also important to unplug everything before you sleep. The head of the bed should be against a wall rather than under a window, as this would allow your chi to escape. You should be able to see the door easily while you are lying in bed. Place lamps by your bed for lighting instead of bright lights

in the ceiling. Try these simple ideas for a few months and see how much energy and

happiness you can bring into your home.

6.Feng Shui has been practised all over the world for 5000 years.

7. Feng Shui says that family members will get on better with each other if the home is properly furnished.

8. The entrance of the home should be well lighted.

9.The living room should be made to look as small as possible.

10. Windows in the living room should be covered.

11. There shouldn’t be any plants in the bedroom, if possible.

12 .A sheet could be used instead of a table-cloth to cover the TV.

13. Sleeping under a window is not a good idea.

14. It’s important to have a good view of the bedroom door from the bed.

15. A single strong light in the bedroom is better than several soft ones

Have you ever wondered how birds find their way when flying? Read and find out. Choose the best answer a, b, c or d for the questions 1 – 5.

The pigeon is famous for always being able to find its way home. In fact racing pigeons is a popular sport in some countries. Owners take their birds hundreds of miles away and then release them. The bird that gets back home in the fastest time is the winner. Until now it has been thought that the birds have their own built-in system of navigation and use the position of the sun and stars to guide them. However a ten-year study has proved to scientists that pigeons travel rather like drivers do and follow the major roads. The birds that were monitored in the study were constantly flying along motorways and even turning left and right at main junctions, while ignoring small winding roads. A professor of zoology at Oxford University and a racing pigeon expert agree. The professor says that birds use their traditional forms of navigation first but when they fly the same route again they remember the roads and follow them. A group of birds was released as a test and all flew along the same major road and turned right at the first junction. The pigeon racer describes this research as absolutely accurate. Every Saturday, he says, you can see flocks of pigeons flying along the motorways.

1. Pigeon racing consists of:

a. owners seeing how far each pigeon can fly.

b. scientific research into the way pigeons fly.

c. pigeons being released on the motorways.

d. owners seeing which pigeon gets home first.

2. Pigeons’ 'built-in system of navigation' refers to:

a. their natural instinct for finding their way.

b. their natural ability to follow major roads.

c. the fact that they fly as a large flock.

d. special equipment the researchers have used to track them.

3. The roads pigeons followed were:

a. all the roads going in the right direction.

b. only motorways.

c. the important direct routes.

d. the smaller less busy country roads.

4. A junction is:

a. a sharp bent in the road.

b. where a motorway and a road meet.

c. a place where one road crosses another.

d. a place where you can buy petrol.

5. Pigeons are especially seen on Saturdays because:

a. that’s the day the roads are busiest.

b. that’s the day the research takes place.

c. that’s the day pigeon racing takes place.

d. that’s the day the motorways are open.

FILM REVIEW : DINOSOUR  ISLAND

George

I went with my younger brother to see this film. I had a great time, but he didn’t. He had to close his eyes in some parts because the dinosaurs looked so real and he didn’t laugh once. I thought the story was really exciting and the clothes were amazing. I’d like to buy the DVD and watch it at home too. The beginning and

the ending were excellent!

Cathy

I saw the advertisement for the film on TV and it looked great but it wasn’t as good as I hoped. I loved the beginning but the second half was boring. I think, I wouldn’t go and see it again. I like films about teenagers and their lives much more. I think those are funnier. I’ve bought a brilliant book about film-making. I’d love to be a famous actress one day and wear lots of wonderful clothes.

Andrew

I didn’t want this film to end because I liked it so much! I read this story before I saw the film. I usually enjoy the books more, but this time it was the opposite! I enjoyed feeling afraid but I laughed a lot in parts of the film too. I read all about how they made the dinosaurs on the internet after I went to see it. I think most young people will love seeing this film!

· Complete the first-ever bicycle expedition to the Geographic South Pole (and return should conditions prove favorable);

· Engage a global audience through daily updates, podcasts, videos, real-time tracking, and more;

· Produce a documentary film and a book;

· Raise money for several bicycle-themed advocacy groups (Parkinson's

Read the text about a new kind of house and do the following tasks.

THE HELIOTROPE

A unique eco-house in Freiburg, Germany

Freiburg is a town of 200,000 inhabitants situated in picturesque countryside on the edge of the Black Forest in southern Germany.

It is a university town, an important industrial and commercial centre, and a tourist resort. But today it is best known as the ecological capital of Germany. The old town is completely pedestrianized, recycling is a way of life and people use bicycles and public transport to commute. In one part of the town cars are forbidden: drivers must park on the edge of the suburb in a special car park with solar panels on the roof. The result is that very few residents own cars.

On the outskirts of the town there is a special district where all the houses are solar-powered. Here there is a detached house, which at first sight looks rather strange. When people see it for the first time, they stand in amazement trying to understand what it is. It is an experimental Eco-house called the Heliotrope. This is the German architect Ralph Disch’s brain-child which has the shape of a cylinder with a unique solar panel system installed on the roof. It is worth mentioning that the designer of the project is thought to be an ardent fan of eco-friendly living accommodation and an enthusiast of alternative energy resources. Even 25 years ago, Disch was against the construction of a nuclear power plant in his city.

It looks like a smallish tower block sitting on a narrow platform. In the centre of the house there is a spiral staircase, and as you go upstairs, you can see large bright rooms with triple-glazed windows and spacious balconies. Here you feel very comfortable since there is a lot of light and air; you would like to stay here for a long time.

But what is happening? You feel something rotating... Yes, the room rotates along with you. So, the most amazing thing about the house is that it turns round. The house follows the sun from morning to night, in order to maximize the energy it produces. By the way, even in nasty weather, the house is provided with the energy stored up from previous days. Enormous solar panels provide the energy required for the heating, the cooker, the fridge, the light bulbs and all other domestic appliances.

Although the house rotates very slowly, the movement is noticeable. It feels a bit like being on a ship in a calm sea or in a house high up in a tree. The good news is that the technology works: the house produces five times more electricity than it consumes.

Freiburg is a window into the future, which shows how urban life may change. Perhaps one day we will all live in houses like the Heliotrope. If we do, we’ll never have to worry about electricity bills again. And we‘ll never be bored with the view. One wants to believe that soon  large industrial cities, along with capital from businesses will use modern technology, trying to save the ecology of our planet for future generations. These good intentions may finally help us get rid human selfishness in relation to our home planet.

Hello, Roy.

I am glad to receive a letter from you. As for hostels you are writing about, I think, it is a good way for young people to travel. You are able to save money, meet new friends and spend the best time of your life. If you come up with an idea to go somewhere, you may pack your bag and move on.

I do have friends in other countries. When I travel around Europe visiting them or sightseeing I prefer to stay not in a fashionable hotel, but in a hostel just like you and some of my friends. It looks like a student dormitory where several people live all together in one room.

See you soon,

Mike.

Space could solve water problems

Have you ever tasted salt water? I guess you have and if so, you will agree with me that it’s not very refreshing. In fact, drinking more than a few cups worth can kill you.

According to the United States Geological Survey, whose mission is to collect and disseminate reliable, impartial, and timely information that is needed to understand the nation’s water resources, about ninety-seven percent of the water on our planet is saltwater; the rest is stored in lakes, rivers, glaciers and aquifers underground. Moreover, only about one-third of the world’s potential fresh water can be used for human needs. As pollution increases, the amount of usable water decreases.

Water is the most precious and taken-for-granted resource we have on Earth. It is also one of the most threatened resources. Increased population and possible climate change will put more and more strain on supplies of this vital resource as time goes on. What could we do in this situation? Though it may seem like science fiction, the solution could lie in outer space.

I’m not saying we’re going to be teleporting to a spring on the other side of the galaxy or colonizing another planet just to have longer showers – it’s much more mundane than that. What we could achieve realistically in this century is the successful use of the solar system’s rare metals and water, barring the invention of the matrix.

You may be surprised to learn that the metal in your keys, coins, cell phone, computer, car and everywhere else, originally came to this planet from space. When Earth formed, the heavy metals sank to the center and formed a solid core. The lighter elements formed the mantle and the crust we live on. Asteroids and comets that struck the Earth brought water and metals to the surface.

There are thousands of asteroids orbiting near Earth. Most asteroids are made of rock, but some are composed of metal, mostly nickel and iron. Probes could be sent out to these to identify useful ones. Then larger probes could push them towards the Earth where they can be handled in orbit.

In order to fuel ships and probes, we simply need to find a source of water, such as a comet or the surface of the moon. We collect the water and pass an electric current through it from a solar panel. The water separates into oxygen and hydrogen, which in liquid form is a powerful rocket fuel.

Is this really possible? We may soon find out. Private company SpaceX has already started delivering equipment to the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS is proof  that countries once at each other’s throats, like America and Russia, can work together and pull off multi-billion dollar projects.

Recently, a company called Planetary Resources Inc. made the news for getting big names like Google and Microsoft to invest in exploring asteroids for material gain. Although it will take many decades, it is wise to put the gears in motion now.

We’ve already landed probes on the surface of asteroids and taken samples from them. We can put something as large as the ISS, which weighs just short of 500 tons, according to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in orbit.

We can make a half-million-mile round-trip to get rocks from the moon. We can do all of these things already. They just need to be applied and developed in a smart way.

In most ways, Sarah McCarthy is your average high schooler. She has a job, college plans, but also a peculiar passion for a 16-year-old: She’s a vinyl junkie. And none of that hipster new stuff. To this senior high school student, there’s nothing like the raw crackle, the depth of sound, her delicate hand on diamond-tipped stylus to spin from the dusty stash of records she found in the basement of her grandfather. “He gave me his receiver and speaker system and told me to listen to it the way it was made to be listened to,” McCarthy said. “I’ve turned a lot of my friends on to it. They come over a lot to listen with me.” At a time when parents feel positively prehistoric as they explain how to use plastic ice-cube trays or speak of phones with cords and dials, this teen knows what a record is. Not only that, she knows the difference between a 45 and an LP. She met her boyfriend in a record shop and now works there. “Listening to old music remastered to a newer format is almost comical,” Sarah said. “They weren’t meant to be digitalised. Listening to Jimi Hendrix on my iPod doesn’t capture his endlessly deep guitar solos quite like a 33 LP of ‘Blues’ does.” This girl’s in love with vinyl, and she’s not the only member of Generation Digital with an ear for records.

Прочитайте тексты и установите соответствие между заголовками 1 – 8 и текстами А – G. Запишите свои ответы в таблицу. Используйте каждую букву только один раз. В задании есть один лишний заголовок.

  1. The main point
  2. The Net influence
  3. Lack of choice
  4. Wild way of entertaining
  5. The top five
  6. Media communication
  7. Mobile media entertainment
  8. Modern interests

А.  Between December 2003 and December 2005, total TV reach declined but the biggest fall was among young people – it fell by 2.9% for 16 –24 year-olds. During 2005, reach declined by 2.2% in that age group. Reach is defined as at least 15 minutes of consecutive TV viewing in a week. Industry figures say the decline could be due to the growth of the internet. DVDs and gaming could also be factors, they said.

В.  Digital Spy is a showbiz, entertainment and digital media community. It is the UK’s largest independent entertainment website generating over 90 million monthly page impressions. Digital Spy is also renowned for its extensive and unique coverage of Big Brother each year. The discussion forums have more than 290,000 registered users and 28.3 million posts.

С. Young people (8–18) devote an average of 7 hours and 38 minutes to using entertainment media across a typical day (more than 53 hours a week), increasing by one hour and seventeen minutes a day over the past five years, according to a new study, Generation M2: Media in the Lives of 8- to 18-Year-Olds, designed and analyzed by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Stanford University researchers.

The increase in media use is driven in large part by ready access to mobile devices like cell phones and iPods. Young people now spend more time listening to music, playing games, and watching TV on their cell phones (a total of 49 min. daily) than they spend talking on them (33 min.).

D. When I plan my parties, I spend time thinking about the menu, the music, the table settings, centerpieces and all the other little details that go into making a wonderful event. But the first thing I really focus on is my guests. After all, that’s the real reason for all the rest. They are usually my friends and I try to do my best to adjust my party to each of our company.

E.  He writes a blog, downloads Korean television shows, manages two Web sites devoted to music and plays an online game called Rongguang Hospital, at Baidu.com. “I started doing a lot of this when I was about 11 years old,” says Mr. Li, a freshman at the Shanghai Maritime University. “Now, I spend most of my leisure time on the Internet,” he says. “There’s nowhere else to go.”

F.  Additionally, anyone under 18 and out of childhood has severely limited options when it comes to entertainment. Just about everybody has experienced the frustration of being under 18 and having nowhere to go apart from the movies or the zoo. Most young people are interested in popular music, but beyond their TV and radio, there’s very little offered to them. Essentially, any licensed premises are out of bounds which creates an enormous void in popular music options.

G. This survey was done in March 2010 (Term 1), and so it is not surprising that summer Hollywood blockbusters featured in the films listed by students as the most enjoyable film they’d watched recently. The top 5 films were Alice in Wonderland, Avatar, Shutter Island, Valentine’s Day and The Hangover. It is interesting to note that 3 of the top 5 films have unrestricted ratings.

Second Career

Jeff Statham: This is my car that I’ve had for years now, made in Canada. I worked in the automotive industry for about the last 12 or 13 years, a plant in Whitby. We produced the seats for the cars built here in Oshawa. Continuous layoffs - and eventually I got hit by them - and now I’m here. I’m currently in the Second Careers program here at Durham College. I’m in the law and security administration program and my ultimate goal is to become a police officer. It’s been great. I love the program.

Ted Dionne (Instructor, Durham College): It gives someone like Jeff an opportunity to do something that he may have wanted to do. He probably had it in the back of his mind that he wanted to do something different visualizing what you want to do in the future …

Jeff Statham: I’ve wanted to go back to school for years but with shifts it’s hard to do. Money is not always there to do it so this Second Careers covers my schooling and it’s a perfect opportunity for me.

Jeanette Barrett (Second Career rep): The Second Career provides financial support to go back to school to do up to a 2-year program. Our Second Career advisor keeps in touch with them.

Jeff Statham: I’ve never really had report cards at work worthy of putting on the fridge, but at the end of my first semester I ended up on the dean’s list, so now my mother finally has a report card on her fridge.

John Milloy (Minister of Training, Colleges & Universities): For workers like Jeff, Second Career is ideal. We have a network of service providers throughout the province called Employment Ontario and they serve as an entry point for anyone who is looking for a job in the province. We work with them to find the best course of action.

Jeff Statham: We have two kids at home that we have to make sure get their homework done, so I’ll make sure I’ll get my homework done as well. Just being in school now I feel a hundred times better, so I’m really looking forward to whatever the future holds.

Hello Joe,

I am glad to receive your letter as it’s been a long time you wrote to me. You mentioned your new school. It’s nice to have everything new as you have a chance to turn over a new leaf in your life. But remember what ever you do that’ll build your new reputation. You should try to do your best at your studies even if you had problems in your old school.

You have also asked about my school. I go to a day school. We have a class of twenty two pupils and some of them are my friends. I like my school as we have interesting lessons and the teachers are also very professional.

Yours,

Josephina

I have a problem socializing with girls

I try to follow the rule ‘treat others the way you want to be treated’. But the thing I’ve realized is that a lot less seems to bother me than bothers girls. If a girl told me something like ‘I really like you but you’re in a dead end job and I am accustomed to a more expensive lifestyle therefore I wouldn’t compromise.’ I would just say okay.

I don’t know, but the way I am, I prefer if people tell me the truth like that so at least I know what’s wrong and maybe I can do better next time. However with girls I noticed telling the truth gets me hated. Girls call me rude and everything. I started lying to girls in college recently and I managed to get back relations pretty easily so I can imagine why lots of guys do it.
The interesting thing is the girls seem to suspect that I’m lying but they still smile and go along with it anyway. Telling girls what they want to hear gets me much further than I used to get. I always had difficulty lying to people because of my morals but these results are astonishing. Women always shun me for telling the cold hard truth so I didn’t know what to do. So I just started doing what got results.

A 7          The guy tries to follow his own rule.

                1) True                    2) False                       3) Not stated

A 8          Girls don’t worry much about many things as the guy thinks.

                1) True                    2) False                       3) Not stated

A 9          Many girls told him that they prefer a more expensive lifestyle.

                1) True                    2) False                       3) Not stated

A 10        If a girl explains her choice to date or not, the guy just submits.

                1) True                    2) False                       3) Not stated

A 11       The guy likes being told what the real matter is.

               1) True                     2) False                       3) Not stated

A 12       All girls like the truth about them as the guy finds it.

               1) True                     2) False                       3) Not stated

A 13       Girls find the guy rude as he tells openly his opinion.

               1) True                     2) False                       3) Not stated

A 14       Telling lies makes all business with girls easier according to the guy’s opinion.

               1) True                     2) False                       3) Not stated

  1. Variety helps socializing
  2. The Net socializing
  3. Negative socializing
  4. Fears of loneliness
  5. Socializing dominates education
  6. Eager to socialize
  7. Family socializing
  8. Kids need more socializing

А. Most students that don’t have any friends at school get depressed or something because they feel lonely, down, and that nobody wants to talk to them. They also might get those phobia things, like for instance, being insecure when talking to someone, or people, for one of the “first” times. So therefore, when a teacher calls them, they might feel uncomfortable with answering. They also might have stuff going through their heads and can’t focus on a test, worksheet, or whatever class assignment.

В.  In many instances, the failure to socialize may be a key factor in qualifying for special education. It is one of the triad of feature for a diagnosis of autism, for example. Special education has a very strong emphasis on inclusion, which in significant part provides for increased social interaction. Learning how to get by in society is an absolutely key component to education, irrespective of whether it is the subject of a performance test.

С. In order to get through school properly you need to be able to socialize. It is especially important for little children. That’s why in my early childhood education course we are learning that developing ways of having healthy social interactions is so important for children.

D. Various societies have varied socializing skills among their members. It does not mean that one culture is superior to others. It just depends on the way that the civilization under study has progressed. A civilization which has cultivated its young generation with a common set of rules and a uniform educational system is more likely to be at harmony. But on the other hand in the United States of America each minor community brings its culture, its ethnicity and their customs. Having so many socializing influences makes the society more tolerant.

E.  My boyfriend used to go out clubbing all the time. But I’m an introvert and I can’t stand that way of easy living.  I told him how it made me feel but he says he wants to start going out more, he says socializing is part of his path in life. I asked him what it would be like if we had our own place, he said he would be working all day and then out socializing every night except for the weekends, then he would spend it with me, this is what he would be like if we lived together.

F.  Every time I use Myspace, Facebook or Bebo, I have a chance to socialize. I use these websites to talk to old friends and make new friends, but the thing is I never ever get that chance to meet a friend, it would be cool to try that, but I don’t know what socializing websites guarantee that, I would like a safe teen site, where I can meet and make cool mates.

G. There are two types of socializing, depending on the nature of factors that influence them. One is positive when a person learns through good and happy experiences. Parents teaching their kids from their experiences, learning from books or from peers are some example of positive socializing. Positive socializing can take on the form of natural socializing and planned socializing.

Dear Jake,

Thanks for your letter. I hope everything is all right.

You ask me about schooling. We’re  working at high pressure as our final exams are coming and they aren’t easy to pass. Not to fail the exams in Math, Russian and English I attend some extra classes and do a lot of tests under my tutors’ supervision. As I want to be an economist I’m studying a lot of mathematics. If it snaps into action and I get excellent results, I’ll have a rest somewhere abroad before going to University.

I hope to take a tour around Europe. How do you find the idea to meet in Berlin? Have you ever been to Germany? Would you mind to travel together?

Well, I must finish now — my lessons begin in an hour.

Warmly,

Helen.

Recently a robin’s nest was found in a bush next to the White

House press briefing room in Washington. The bird is really

, because many people walk by this place on a daily

basis.  photographs were taken of newly-hatched little

robins in the nest. No one can say what  the bird to build

a nest in this place. Perhaps, it was  to the seat of power,

some people joke. Not only the reporters, but also the stuff of the

White house were astonished. They were greatly  by

the bird. Now the journalists try to walk quietly when going past

that bush. When the little robins grow, they will certainly fly

away. But scientists say that they are  to return. After

all, robins are birds of instinct and habit. Perhaps one day we

will learn of new developments in bird life around America’s

main house.
